In this first activity on the island, it was our pleasure to inform the educational community about the “Water Monuments in Naxos” project, through a series of school interventions. In this phase, the students:
- Discussed the water cycle and its threats (over-pumping, water scarcity, climate change, etc.)
- Wondered about water management today, and in the past, in an era before a water supply network
- Recognized Water Monuments in their area, both artificial (watermills, cisterns, wells, etc.), and natural (rivers, wetlands, etc.)
- Familiarized themselves with the Recording Form and committed to recording Water Monuments from their area in the coming months.
The activity took place on the 27-28 April by two MEdiES staff (I. Alampei and V. Malotidi) and involved around 150 students and teachers from four Primary Schools of Naxos.
The next steps of the program will focus on the development of the educational material and the launch of the Water Monuments recording campaign on Facebook (both in GREEK language).
