Rainwater Harvesting in the Cyclades - 2012

1st Insert 17/5/2012, update 09/10/2012

This was the 4th year that the MEdIES secretariat of ΜΙO-ECSDE has successfully cooperated with the Mission Water Campaign and GWP-med to implement a series of educational activities in schools of 5 Cyclades islands namely in Paros, Antiparos, Andros (May 2012) as well as Kea and Kythnos (October 2012).

The educational intervention was primarily designed for late primary, and early high school (8-13 yrs) and piloted for younger as well as older students. The purpose of the intervention was to inform and sensitize students to the issue of water saving, particularly through the revival of the practice of collecting rainwater in cisterns. All the designed activities were experiential and discovery-based for the learners. At the end of the intervention the educational poster “I care for water” was handed to all students.

A series of teacher trainings took place also in the islands, during which the trainees were informed on how to use in their classes the educational material “the Gift of Rain” that was handed out to them.

In total 1302 students and 164 teachers participated in this the 2012 activities in the Cyclades.

The educational interventions were carried out in cooperation with the Dpts. of Environmental Education (EE) of Primary and Secondary Education of the Cyclades. The overall “Rain Water Harvesting in the Cyclades” project is lead by GWP-MED -within the wider campaign entitled MISSION WATER (APOSTOLH NERO) of Coca-Cola HBC Greece.
