1. Visibility & Events

A. MEdIES @ Conference “Water, Sanitation, Hygiene & Peace”, 16-18 February 2018 Beirut

MEdIES Coordinator Prof Michael Scoullos and Mr Vassilis Psallidas contributed substantially to the “Water, Sanitation, Hygiene & Peace” Conference, that took place on 16 - 18 February in Beirut, Lebanon. On the 1st day, Prof. Scoullos delivered one of the main presentations about “Water scarcity, global warming and effect on economy development”, while Mr Psallidas coordinated a break out session (on the 2nd day) addressed to school headmasters, supervisors, educators and municipal representatives (80 people) focusing on Non Conventional Water Resources & ESD.

B. MEdIES mission to the Malta Water Conservation Awareness Centre, 13-16 March 2018

MEdIES Coordinator, Prof. Michael Scoullos, and the three MEdIES Officers, Iro Alampei, Vicky Malotidi, and Vassilis Psallidas were in a four-days mission in Malta, to explore the possibilities and specificities of the recently inaugurated Water Conservation Awareness Centre (in Rabat) to provide educational programmes for its visitors. Actually, MEdIES was entrusted to design four hands-on educational programmes for the Centre, to ‘compliment’ the experience of the four touch screen wall e-games on water (Water cycle; water monuments; Water Utility; and Non-Conventional Water Resources).

During its mission, the MEdIES team observed teams of adults (experts and teachers) as well as students playing the e-games at the Centre, while focus group discussions were held with all teams, to collect the needed feedback and to identify needs and expectations for the planned educational activities. The hands-on are expected to be finalized and piloted at the Centre by the end of 2018.

C.  Upcoming “ESD train-the-trainer” seminar in Athens, Greece, 07-13 October 2018

Do you know about our autumn course on ESD?

MEdIES has designed the course content of a week-long ESD training to take place in Athens, in October 2018, and widely disseminated an invitation to European formal and non formal educators to support their participation through an Erasmus KA1 mobility grant. The course will combine short theory sessions and a lot of workshops, around two specializations:

(1) On using the Pack "Know, Feel, Act! to Stop Marine Litter"

(2) On using “Non-Conventional Water Resources Management for applying ESD”

Τhere was a high interest for the course (> 40 pre-registrations), however the Erasmus KA1 grant outcomes are expected in June 2018.  Stay tuned.

Find out more about the course at http://www.medies.net/articles.asp?cID=8&aID=1110
